Lyrics
Twisted and Turned
©2004 Rex M Anderson
I was out walk’n through a small town in Kansas
I stopped to stay for the night
People were busy with last minute shopping
The trees all glittered with lights
I looked at my feet as I walked through the snow
And my shoes seemed tired and old
Then a voice came drifting ever so softly
On the wind that blew through my coat
I twisted and turned and I looked at the oncoming crowd
I saw her reflection and turned toward the sound
I walked on over and tapped on the shoulder
Of the woman with scarves in her hair
And when she turned to me her eyes looked right through me
She smiled and said how have you been
I said do you remember, of course I remember
She smiled and reached for my hand
And as she moved to me a chill went right through me
I never though I’d see her again
And she laughed and she reached fro my hair she said you’re getting grey
I said maybe I am, but you still look the same
As I remember it was cold in December
We sat and talked until two
We were much younger and yet to discover
She invited me up to her room
I left early that morning, I gave her no warning
I kissed her check as she slept
And as I turned over, I looked over my shoulder
I thought maybe she’d smile again
And I twisted and turned and felt my feet walk away
I should have gone back but I know that I couldn’t stay
She said that was our moment our one stolen moment
We’ll tuck it away in our dreams
And as we get older we’ll look over our shoulder
And remember what love could have been
Yes I’m a singer I see the ring on your finger
Two children at home with their dad
It’s so good to see you, I just can’t believe you
Would find me again today
And I twisted and turned and watched her walk away
